SMP files are classic SmartMusic accompaniments created in Finale versions 2006 through 2012, and SMPX files are classic SmartMusic accompaniments created in Finale versions 2014 and later. An SMP or SMPX file from Finale enables you to use classic SmartMusic's platform and practice tools to practice, perform, and distribute any piece of music created in Finale. With these Finale-created classic SmartMusic accompaniments, you can:
You can find and open SMP and SMPX files that you've imported into classic SmartMusic in My Library > Finale-Created Files. If you can't see Finale-Created Files under My Library, double-click My Library to display all the repertoire types that you've added to My Library. Finale-created files you've received as an assignment are also added to My Library for future use.
Or, in My Library > Finale-Created Files, click the Import button.
The Import Files dialog box appears.
In the Import Files dialog box, select multiple Finale-created files to import them all at once.
Note that classic SmartMusic looks for SMP and SMPX files in the original file location from which you imported them. Moving or deleting the original file will require you to re-import the SMP or SMPX file from the new file location.
Comprehensive instructions for creating SMPX files in Finale 2014 are located in the Finale User Manual:
